About Qigong Qigong, also spelled Chi Kung, is often confused with Tai Chi because both have moves that are slow and harmonious. However, there is quite a difference. Tai Chi is a martial art that has evolved into a healing type of exercise. Qigong has for thousands of years been strictly an exercise and health program. To put it simply, Qigong is to Tai Chi what weight lifting is to football. Therefore, it can be said that Qigong is designed to keep you fit and healthy. Although Tai Chi can keep you fit as well, many have found that Qigong is much easier to understand and much easier to execute the moves Like Tai Chi, Qigong is rich in ancient history. There is documented evidence that shows Qigong to have existed 2000 years B.C. In the ancient Chinese culture, the people would pay their doctor to keep them well. If they became sick, these people would stop paying the doctor. So it comes as no surprise that most Chinese medicine is designed to keep you well instead of get you well. This same philosophy is carried throughout the Qigong exercises. Each move is designed to improve the health of a certain organ(s) in the body while at the same time increase your energy and improve blood circulation. As with studying any ancient culture or exercise, be sure you find someone who has many years experience in this ancient Chinese exercise. We are currently teaching Qigong in two locations, in Cartersville and at KSU. For Cartersville, contact Grace Stephen 404-388-5032, email: gracestephen@comcast.net.
